Mark Braunias / Artist / Profile


Mark Braunias. Born in Tauranga. Lives and works in Auckland and Kawhia, New Zealand. Studied at the Canterbury School of Fine Arts in Christchurch, graduating with a BFA in 1987.

The inaugural winner of the James Wallace Art Award in 1992, Braunias has regular solo exhibitions and appeared in public gallery exhibitions including A very peculiar practice (City Gallery, Wellington, 1995), Gruesome (Robert McDougall Art Gallery, Christchurch, 1999) and The Cartoon Show at the Auckland Art Gallery in 2001.

He has completed Artist-in-Residence programmes at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery in 2002, Southland Museum and Art Gallery, 2005 and the Sarjeant Gallery, Wanganui, 2007. His work is held in public, corporate and private collections in New Zealand and overseas.
